Another one of our volunteer stars!
As part of our Volunteers' Week celebrations, we are treating our lovely volunteers to a spot of lunch today. Here is one of our Heritage guides, John Young, explaining his volunteer journey with The Station.
"Having retired from the army after 37 years service, I settled in the Richmond area in 2000. As a life- long railway enthusiast, I was involved as a volunteer from the early days of the Station in 2002. Initially I was a member of the Events, Operations, Training, Volunteer and Heritage Groups, helping to run fundraising events and the volunteer organisation but the later focused on the heritage aspects.
For 8 years I also ran the railway collectors events to help raise funds. I worked with the contractors on the recovery of heritage items during the rebuild in 2006/7 and on the design and construction of the Heritage Room in the old Booking Office.
I was a Trustee for 6 years but now concentrate on the heritage displays and tours."
Thank you, John.
