A New Brew Crew: Sons Lead the Way Forward at Local Brewery at The Station
We are delighted to welcome a new tenant to The Station, Richmond.
Askrigg-based and family-owned Yorkshire Dales Brewery is celebrating 18 years of brewing with a new venture that deepens its commitment to the area and the industry.
Head brewer Rob Wiltshire and his wife Anne are bringing their knowledge and passion of craft brewing to The Station in Richmond, where their sons Charles and Henry will be leading a new craft brewery, named ‘Brewstation x Yorkshire Dales Brewery’.
With brewing in their DNA, Charles and Henry have become increasingly involved in the Askrigg site post-pandemic, which itself has seen expansion with the opening of a new beer garden and popular tap room. Starting off by helping Rob and Anne with various jobs in the brewery, they’ve had the benefit of their parents’ years of experience and expertise to now be brewers themselves. Their two most recent brews, American IPA-style beers Cuckoo Hill and Summerbridge proved extremely popular in pubs and bars across Yorkshire, and they’ve also brewed stouts, sours, pilsners and Belgian-style beer in recent months.
Rob is excited about the new venture, and said, “Since we started in 2005 Yorkshire Dales Brewery has always been about the highest quality beers. We’re always looking for ways to do things differently, improve what we do, and offer our customers new beers that reflect the latest thinking in the craft beer world. Charles and Henry are raring to go. Charles has completed a brewer’s course at Brewlab Sunderland and Henry is soon heading off to Brisbane to experience the incredible craft beer scene over there and deepen his knowledge. Anne and I are looking forward to mentoring them to get the new site established, brewing great beers in Richmond!”
Anne leads the retail side of the business and explains how Brewstation x Yorkshire Dales Brewery will take shape, “We’re currently commissioning the new brewery and adapting the retail space at The Station, and we’ll have a soft opening to sell Yorkshire Dales Brewery beers on site by the end of October. Charles and Henry will be cuckoo brewing their Brewstation beers in Askrigg initially, while we get that side of things set-up in Richmond over the Winter. So, come Spring, Brewstation will be fully functional, brewing on the premises and with a very cool tap-room for customers to relax and enjoy. Just like our Askrigg tap-room, we’re sure it’s going to prove really popular with locals and visitors alike.”
Chief Executive of Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust (RBPT), the charity that owns and operates The Station, Chris Brown said, “We are delighted to welcome Brewstation x Yorkshire Dales Brewery to The Station. A well established family run business, which champions Yorkshire, and locally brewed beer is a great fit for our community enterprise, and I am sure will prove a real hit with both locals and visitors. We wish Rob, Anne, Charles and Henry every success and look forward to working with them.”
