Two contrasting painting styles linked by a singular aim - to create art fired by emotion, not observation. Michael Bilton’s paintings are made with oils and mixed media on paper. Garry Brannigan’s bold and colourful geometric designs are painted with acrylic on canvas. Behind this new work, which has been created especially for Swaledale Festival’s 50th anniversary, lies an optimistic reawakening for two celebrated Swaledale artists: Michael returning to his home and studio in Grinton after they were devastated by the 2019 floods, and Garry beginning to paint again following treatment for cancer in 2020.
