Local businesses join together in Tour de Yorkshire competition.

The Station and Eyecatching Signs recently ran a competition with local primary schools to design a Tour de Yorkshire banner.

The competition was to design a banner welcoming the tour, which clearly showed Richmond’s role as a host town for the race.

Hundreds of entries were received and, after a difficult selection process, the winner was chosen as Emmy Raggett, aged 9, from Richmond Methodist School.

Steve Smith from Eyecatching Signs says, “The entries for the competition were fantastic and it was quite difficult to decide on a winner. After deciding on a winner in each age group we decided the overall winner should be Emmy. Her design depicts Richmond very cleverly with the use of Castle, Trinity Clock tower and the Obelisk. Hers also works well for a banner as the text is big and bold.”

Jemma Holliday, Communications Coordinator at The Station adds, “It’s always lovely to see so many fantastic entries for our schools competitions. This one was extra special as we get into the spirit of the upcoming tour. Each design was unique and it was obvious how much hard work had gone into them. We are delighted to have the banner hanging pride of place outside our building. Huge thanks to Steve at Eyecatching Signs for not only printing the banner free of charge, but for giving Emmy the opportunity to see it being printed at his shop.”

As for the other fantastic entries, The Station will be displaying as many as possible alongside their special Tour de Yorkshire pop up exhibition, ‘On Yer Bike’ from 5th May.

Jemma says, “It’s so important that we acknowledge the other brilliant entries. The children are our artists of the future and we’re looking forward to seeing how much they brighten up our building alongside our regular Station artists.”
