SCULPT, PRINT, PAINT - Sara C Cox, Mitsi B Kral, and Stef Ottevanger
Working in very different mediums, these three artists are all capturing moments of personal connection here in the North Pennines, creating provocative and unique interpretations of our natural world and the human condition
Picking up a pencil and drawing is one of the ways we make sense of the world, for Mitsi Kral drawing has been a fundamental part of herself ever since she first held a pencil, Stef Ottevanger started drawing and sculpting animals as a child and Sara Cox drew her way through a Zoology degree. But a sketch isn’t always enough to convey what makes something worth our attention. That’s why these artists all have such a tactile approach. That unique mark from our fingers, or the movement of a brush, introduces a hidden energy, bringing something into being which speaks to a deeper part of us all, both emotionally and aesthetically, compelling us to look again at something and see with new eyes. Using a wide range of media between them, including acrylics, watercolours, clay, resin, bronze, wire, ink, wool and textiles, all three enjoy teaching and delivering art workshops, and have collaborated holding art fun-days and open studios. They all welcome commissions.
