Moving Forward, Looking Back

"For as long as I can remember, I have loved to create. Painting, drawing, sewing and crafts were the substance of my childhood. I was the child who was always waiting for the washing up bottle to tackle the Blue Peter make!

After leaving school, I followed a path of office work and for years was employed by HMRC. In 2002, I took a leap of faith and went back to school as a mature student, to finally embrace my love of Art and Design. I proudly graduated from Teesside University with a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art.

Today I create my art full time. It is my job and my passion. My work is naïve, bold and colourful. Life can be tough at times, so through my medium, I like to express scenes of bygone carefree days. I hope they resonate with you, those days of fun, sunshine and laughter we enjoyed in childhood.

The body of work I share with you today is a simple reflective. A series of joyful, colourful paintings created using a mixed media process. Multi layered backgrounds have been formed by layering paint and pastel, printing and mark making. Some works contain collage, pages from vintage children's books and old maps. These tiny fragments are poignant reminders of the most precious times. Times that we hold in our hearts forever.

'Moving forward, looking back' is the result of a personal journey, and each piece comes from a heartfelt place."
