An exciting new exhibition - coming soon!

We are very excited about an upcoming exhibition from Chopsticks!

An exhibition of the creative skills expressed by adults with learning disabilities, inspired by their community and their friendships.

The development of ChopArts was an idea borne out of discussions with Northallerton Glass, after the company kindly offered to supply Chopsticks (North Yorkshire) Ltd with glass and mirror off-cuts that would otherwise be sent to landfill. This offer came together with Chopsticks’ desire to provide additional creative work activities that could also provide new income streams to support the long term sustainability of the organisation.

Chopsticks (North Yorkshire) Ltd is a non-profit charity and Community Business providing supported work for adult clients with disabilities. Chopsticks strives to provide the best support possible tailored to each person’s needs, treating all clients as individuals. The benefits that all participants receive from being involved in the creation of ChopArts glass art are many and varied. They include increased self-confidence, improved wellbeing, new skills and new friendships.

ChopArts is supported through a partnership collaboration with Claro Enterprises (a registered charity based in Harrogate) and Ruth’s Arty Experience based in Northallerton. Ruth Hawkes is an artist and therapist leading the development of clients skills. ChopArts at Sam Turners is a display of creative skills expressed by adults with learning disabilities, inspired by their community and by their friendships. You can support their work by purchasing a piece of glass art.

ChopArts at The Station will run from 10th - 21st February, with live painting sessions happening throughout.

There will also be an opportunity for members of the general public to be involved in ChopArts on Thursday 15th and 22nd February when ChopArts have a larger panel of glass on the platform and they will be able to add their own splash of colour to a panel. Pop those dates in your diary!
